Hairspray at Shaftesbury Theatre
HAIRSPRAY, the smash hit musical comedy, is now playing in London's West End. With standing ovations every night and unanimous critical acclaim, the show has broken box office records at the Shaftesbury Theatre! This 'feel great show' (Guardian), starring Michael Ball, has recently been awarded Best Musical in the Olivier Awards 2008, the Critics Circle Awards 2008, the What's on Stage Theatregoers Choice Awards 2008 and the Evening Standard Theatre Awards 2007. Follow Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart as she sets out to dance her way onto TV's most popular dance show. Michael Ball, one of Britain's leading musical stars, is 'spectacular' (Daily Telegraph) as he undergoes a major transformation to play Tracy's larger than life mother Edna, and has been awarded Best Actor in a Musical for the role in the 2008 Olivier Awards. Leanne Jones, 'in an astonishingly accomplished stage debut' (Evening Standard) has won the 2008 Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical in the role of Tracy. 'Musical star' (Sunday Times) Ben James-Ellis, who first shot to fame on the reality TV show Any Dream Will Do, plays heart-throb Link Larkin. Michael Ball will not perform at either performance on Saturday 27th June. His role will be played by Adam Price. Please note: Leanne Jones, Ben James-Ellis and Michael Ball are in the cast to 25th July 2009. The role of Edna Turnblad will is played by Adam Price on Monday evening performances. HAIRSPRAY welcomes Brian Conley as larger-than-life Edna Turnblad from 27 July! Brian is joined by Chloe Hart taking over as big-haired, big-hearted Tracy Turnblad in her West End debut, and Wicked's Liam Tamne as heartthrob Link Larkin. Brian Conley is one of the UK's biggest entertainment stars with credits spanning musicals, television, film, comedy and variety, including lead roles in hit musicals Me & My Girl, Jolson and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
