'A rare thing, a musical on a serious and important subject' The Guardian.

'The storyline aims straight for the heart' Time Out.

'Melanie La Barrie offers a powerful combination of malevolence and misery as a strong-voiced Desdemona, Nadia Di Mambro is heartcatchingly vulnerable as her daughter' Daily Telegraph.

'Nadia Di Mambro sparkles with innocence as Sugar' Evening Standard.

'La Barrie pitches herself mightily into a pair of belting emotional songs at the end of each act' Daily Express.

New musical 'Rue Magique' explores the complex relationship between Desdemona, a South London prostitute, and her thirteen year-old daughter Sugar.  A moving rite of passage story, 'Rue Magique' portrays a world that exists beneath the radar of police and social services, where people struggle to survive by any means possible.  ...  But can there be any hope, any redemption, when a mother forces her own daughter into prostitution?

The musical was originally conceived by composer and lyricist Brett Kahr as a short musical piece which was inspired by the young people of a children's charity and was performed in the presence of the Prince of Wales in 1999. It has subsequently been extensively developed into a full length two-act musical in collaboration with Lisa Forrell

Leading the cast are Melanie La Barrie (Les Miserables, Mary Poppins, Daddy Cool) as Desdemona, Terel Nugent (Mary Poppins, Hairspray) as Rem and newcomer Nadia Di Mambro as Sugar. Joining them are Gavin Ashbarry, Adam Bayjou, Julian Forsyth, Amanda Minihan, Amanda Posener and Anna Stolli.
